DuPage Health Department to host ‘Understanding Children’s Environmental Health’ Feb. 19

The DuPage County Health Department is offering a free learning opportunity to physicians of all specialties, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, and nurses to learn about the unique vulnerability of children to environmental toxicants associated with adverse childhood health outcomes.

The seminar "Understanding Children's Environmental Health" will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Glendale Lakes Golf Club in Glendale Heights from 8 to 10 a.m.

Participants will learn the pivotal role medical professionals have in advising families in the reduction of chemical exposures.

Featured speakers:

• U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Downers Grove) The congressman, a scientist, clean energy entrepreneur and author, has made combatting climate change his top priority. He will offer updates on legislation and polices that assure healthy environments.

• Susan Buchanan, MD, MPH, Director of the Great Lakes Center for Children's Environmental Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health, will discuss "Children's Environmental Health: Local and Global." Dr. Buchanan is board certified in Family Medicine and Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

• Linda Hansen, MD, MPH, will offer the Children's Environmental Health Assessment in DuPage County. Dr. Hansen is an endocrinologist with a Master's in Public Health from the University of Florida with concentrations in Environmental Health and Epidemiology.

• Jean-Marie Kauth, PhD, MPH, will provide Children's Environmental Health Impacts, Provider and Patient Resources. Dr. Kauth is a Professor at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.
