Boutique owner closing West Dundee shop

The owner of a downtown West Dundee boutique is closing her shop to focus on art shows, gallery events and online sales.

Elgin resident Hanan Hall has sold clothing, accessories and her own handcrafted jewelry at 125 W. Main St. for eight years, first as Romantica Boutique, then as a more rustic shop called The Fox and Filly.

With her schedule filling up with vendor events on nights and weekends, however, Hall said she needed to prioritize the most profitable and enjoyable elements of her business. In the end, she resolved to cease operating the physical store later this year.

"It's a business decision. You've got to go where the money is, and my money is in doing my shows," she said. "You can't juggle it all."

Hall plans to sell her merchandise at art shows, farmers markets and other area events, as well as online. The move gives her some flexibility, she said, and allows her to spend more time making and restoring jewelry - an art she considers her true passion.

Hall, who grew up in the Dundee area, has traveled throughout the country playing music and selling her jewelry. She previously owned jewelry stores in East Dundee, San Diego and Lake Geneva before bringing her business to West Dundee.

"I have a following, and they'll follow me anywhere," she said. "They're not going to miss me."

The Fox and Filly will maintain regular business hours into July, after which it will operate sporadically through September. The boutique is having a closing sale with items up to 75 percent off, Hall said.

The store's regular hours are from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays, according to its Facebook page.

Hall plans to post her whereabouts on her Hanan Hall Jewelry and The Fox and Filly Facebook pages. Customers can also sign up for her mailing list.
