From 1-3 p.m. Aug. 13, Brushwood Center will host a book signing and talk with the author and illustrator of the recent publication "The Peregrine Returns: The Art and Architecture of Urban Raptor Recovery."

The Field Museum's Artist-in-Residence and a recent Brushwood exhibitor Peggy Macnamara will join co-author and Field Museum ornithologist Dr. Mary Hennen to examine the scientific research on the peregrine falcon's recovery from near extinction.

Not just facts and numbers, "The Peregrine Returns" is personal, telling the experiences that Hennen and her team had while working on peregrine conservation. Topping off the book are Macnamara's watercolor paintings that bring the stories and science to life.

To enrich the discussion, Dr. Ben Golubuff, professor of English at Lake Forest College and head of Brushwood's nature and well-being book club, Ryerson Reads, will mediate the book talk.

Books will be available for sale and signing at this event. To register, visit BrushwoodCenter.org or call (224) 633-2424.

Located in the Ryerson family historic home among pristine woodlands, Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods promotes the importance of nature for nurturing personal and community well-being, cultivating creativity and inspiring learning.

Brushwood Center is a nonprofit organization at 21850 N. Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods.
