Ice Miller's Schillerstrom named a 'Top 25 Newsmaker'

Engineering News-Record magazine has named Ice Miller LLP partner Robert (Bob) J. Schillerstrom as one of its 25 top newsmakers for 2016 for his work as chairman of the Illinois Tollway Board to promote innovation, diversity and serving the best interests of the construction industry and public.

Schillerstrom' s initial involvement with the Tollway Authority included the planning of a new, $3.4 billion western extension of Route 390 to O'Hare Airport that is expected to create 65,000 jobs over the next 25 years. Since then, he has worked to increase contracts with minority, women and veteran-owned firms.

“Bob has always been someone who knows how to draw upon his attorney skill set and government experience to help build relationships,” said Dave Hight, office managing partner in Ice Miller's DuPage County office. “We are proud of the work he is doing with the Tollway Authority to increase tollway jobs for the diverse communities of people who live in the areas surrounding the tollways.”

Schillerstrom and the Tollway Board are now managing a 15-year, $12-billion construction program aimed at exploring all opportunities to use technology and innovation, including electronic collection systems and testing more sustainable materials and methods to better serve the Tollway users.

“My goal as chairman is to promote a cutting-edge culture of innovation, customer service and diversity,” said Schillerstrom. “We want to find efficient and better ways to serve our customers through technology and innovation.”
