Floyd's 99 Barbershop is opening in Vernon Hills, the third suburban location for the rock 'n' roll-themed barbershop that caters to both men and women.
The new shop will open Friday, Oct. 19 at 875 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Mellody Farm. This is the 115th location for the Colorado-based company. Other suburban locations are in Naperville and Schaumburg.
The company said clients can select from a range of services including haircuts, shaving, color, waxing, deep conditioning treatments and styling. In addition to traditional hair services, Floyd's 99 is known for its barbershop straight-razor neck shave with hot lather and steamed towels, and for offering a complimentary shoulder massage after each service.
As construction nears completion, the design of the interior will boast the Floyd's 99 signature rock 'n' roll poster wall of music memorabilia and murals of vintage posters. Staffed with stylists and barbers, the 1,498-square-foot-space will have 13 stations and plasma televisions.
"Although we were founded in Colorado, Illinois has always felt like a second home to us. As one of Floyd's 99's largest markets, we're excited to open our 13th Illinois location and first in Vernon Hills. My brothers and I saw the Mellody Farms complex as the perfect opportunity for continued expansion outside of the greater Chicago area in a vibrant and growing community," said co-founder Rob O'Brien.
The O'Brien brothers established the company in 1999 and opened the doors to their first shop in Denver in 2001. The name "Floyd's 99" was a collective effort. The inspiration came from the brothers' wanting an old-school name that was easy to remember, and the "99" comes from the year established. Along with their array of services, Floyd's 99 also offers its own retail line of grooming products.
