Richard R. Klicki has been named editor of the Daily Herald Business Ledger, succeeding Kim Mikus, who resigned in November.

Klicki has been a part of the Business Ledger since the Daily Herald Media Group acquired the publication in 2011. As the publication's director of content development, he focused on the Business Ledger's online presence, leading the website,, through two redesigns. He also oversaw the redesign and expansion of the Business Edge e-newsletter, as well as the development of the Ledger's social media presence on Facebook and Twitter.

Together, Mikus and Klicki repackaged and improved the content of the Business Ledger print edition to focus on the success stories of suburban companies and entrepreneurs, as well as highlight trends and issues facing suburban businesses. Their efforts were recognized through numerous awards, including being named Best Tabloid Publication by the Alliance of Area Business Publishers in 2015 and 2016.

For the past year and a half, Klicki has split his time between the Business Ledger and the Daily Herald's Southern Illinois LOCAL Media Group, where he was focused on developing content for that group's community newspapers.

A 34-year veteran of the Daily Herald, he started as a copy editor and eventually became the newspaper's Lake County bureau chief, news editor, administrative editor and online content editor. In 2002, Klicki developed and launched the Daily Herald's Academic and Leadership teams, community-based recognition programs that showcase outstanding high school students for their academic achievements and community service.

A native of Elgin, Klicki holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and radio/television from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and has also earned certification from the Poynter Institute for Media Studies' Leadership Academy.
