Metro 19 site work underway in Roselle, but construction delayed to spring

Site work has begun for the Metro 19 apartment complex in Roselle. But construction will not start until the spring.

Mayor David Pileski said construction of the roughly $80 million project was pushed back to the spring because of weather-related issues, a lack of available materials, and the timing of the village's land swap agreement with the developers - Avgeris and Associates Inc.

However, site work on the property along Irving Park Road started in late October.

The 293-unit apartment building will be located north of the Roselle Metra station.

Marketed as luxury apartments for young professionals, Metra 19 will have a parking garage for its tenants and Metra commuters.

The project is the largest of its kind in Roselle's history. According to the village, Metro 19 is as large as the four largest residential projects in Roselle's Town Center area combined over the last 12 years.

Work is underway to widen the Rose Drive East entrance to the Metra station's north parking lot to create a two-lane entrance and exit to the station. The current exit to the lot - Rose Drive West - will permanently close after Rose Drive East is widened.

Village Administrator Jason Bielawski said demolition of a building on the future Metro 19 site is nearly complete. Water utility work for the property also is underway.

He said the work on Rose Drive East is expected to be finished by the end of the month.

"I think this is an exciting development for the community and, hopefully, one that will be a catalyst to more development in the future," Bielawski said.
