Maybe we can work together

Amazing. We are experiencing a return of the crusades as anti-abortion forces mount their legislative steeds and charge at women who thought they had a right to decide what's best for themselves and their families.

States have passed various restrictive laws that mandate among other restrictions: jail sentences for physicians who perform abortions, no termination in cases of rape or incest, personhood status for zygotes, a falsely named heartbeat restriction which comes from tissue called the fetal pole pulse - there is no heart, and the list goes on.

Those of us who know family members, friends and situations that involve abortions are working to see Illinois House Bill 40 and Senate Bill 1594 become laws in our state. Our families deserve protection for a health care provision that is legal and humane.

And a word to anti-s. Work tirelessly for paid family leave for both parents, see that Illinois' 17 percent of poor children are lifted out of poverty, enable sexually active persons to obtain low cost effective birth control, and support Illinois' DCFS funding and reorganization. We pro-choice advocates won't stand outside your offices screaming at you. We might even be able to work together.
