New Hoffman Estates Burlington store donates $5,000 to District 54 school

Friday's ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Burlington store at 4700 Hoffman Blvd. in the Poplar Prairie Stone Crossing shopping center in Hoffman Estates was accompanied by the business' $5,000 donation to the Muir Literacy Academy in Hoffman Estates.

New Burlington stores make such donations when they open to a local school, and Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54's literacy academy was this store's recipient.

The donation occurred just hours after a change on the District 54 board of education, as Debbie Schmidt was sworn in the night before to succeed the retiring Bob Kaplan after the uncontested April 6 election.

Incumbents Ken Van Dyke, Jim Pye and Nick Scipione also began new terms, with fellow member Mary Kay Prusnick succeeding Kaplan as board president.
