Daily Herald welcomes longtime handicapper Ron Uchman

Daily Herald Report

sports@dailyherald.com

With Joe Kristufek moving on to work fulltime with Lexington, Kentuch-based TwinSpires, the Daily Herald will offer Ron Uchman's handicapping insights for our horse racing coverage. Here's a glance at Ron's credentials:

Work experience: Uchman has been one of the country's top public handicappers for the past several years. He has enjoyed stints at several publications, including the Daily Racing Form, The Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times and, of course, the Daily Herald. He also has worked for several "tip sheets" and was one of the original handicappers for Great Britain's "At The Races" betting network. Currently he writes comments and does selections for the Chicago area's thoroughbred racetracks. He has worked for Hawthorne Race Course for 20 years, with occasional stints at Arlington International.

The quote: "Hello again. It's good to be back in the Daily Herald. I think that it's been about 10 years. I hope to keep up tradition, by Joe Kristufek and Ray Hallett before him, of providing quality racing information. We will all miss Joe but it's terrific that he finally gets the opportunity he so richly deserves. He is one of the hardest working guys I know. It's my hope that we will have success through this meet and beyond. Good luck to all."
